San Diego Weekend Highlights: University Heights
If you love craft cocktail bars, charming restaurants, and friendly neighborhood vibes, you'll probably fall straight into love with University Height's!
When it comes to San Diego, the weekend possibilities are endless. You'll find a lot of the local and tourist favorites at the beach or downtown, but when a sunny Saturday calls for something more down-to-earth, University Heights hits the spot. What's great about the main strip of this neighborhood is that there are tons of adorable eateries, unique bars, and cafés perfect to sit down and fika! Next time you drive over, your itinerary is as simple as one, two, three!
Here it is: (1) pick up lunch at Banh Thai; (2) find a spot in the grass by Trolley Barn Park and have a picnic; then, (3) spend the rest of your day at Parks & Rec—a spot perfect for a day of socializing or a relaxing "let's catch up" drink.
Unconvinced? Maybe the neighborhood vibes speak better through photos! Now, I'll be honest... when I started, this post was meant to feature Parks & Rec, but you really can't capture one piece of University Heights without the whole neighborhood!
I like to call the following photo "The Road to Thai Food Heaven." You see, their tom yum soup takes you to a completely different level. Oh, and don't even get me started on the Pad See-Ew, Thai Chicken Satay, or Red Curry. They don't skimp on the spice level either, allowing you to choose from a scale of one, not spicy, to five, very spicy. Most of the time, I can only take their three, mild.
The last time I visited, Bubba and I followed those three steps and it was the perfect Saturday. I fell in love with the oh-so-refreshing Dos Ojos. This bad boy is a beautiful mix of cucumber-infused tequila, lime (I used my wedges to add an extra squeeze of citrus), soda, and ginger! The ginger gave it just the kick it needed to turn up this fresh craft cocktail a notch! We played a little bit of shuffle board, got some fresh air, and had great drinks to complement it all!
If you decide to drop by during the week, Park and Rec serves a few of their classics for $6 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to close from Monday through Thursday! Talk about a very happy happy hour. 😘
Until next time, University Heights! I'll definitely see you soon.
